/// What’s Going on with the Clinkle App?
Clinkle is a mobile wallet app that has been in the works for a while now. Despite lots of talk about how new and revolutionary it’s going to be, it has been delayed several times, and many of the original employees are no longer there. Vocativ recently looked into this promising startup, whose founder, 22-year-old Stanford grad Lucas Doplan, was somehow able to raise $30 million in one year.
According to the article, Lucas caught the eye of a lot of investors last year, due to his idea to create a payment app that would use sound waves. Up until last summer, Crinkle appeared to have a lot of potential. But apparently more than 30 employees have left the startup, with over a dozen more being laid off since last year. Many of them have said that Crinkle’s founder might be ambitious, but he is not exactly friendly or a team player, and the salary and benefits offered are not competitive.
Yet somehow Lucas is able to attract high-quality professionals, including Barry McCarthy, the former chief operating officer of Netflix. This – along with the 138,000 people on the waiting list for the app – may signal that Clinkle still has promise.
