HTC Corp. is considering outsourcing production of smartphones in a major strategic shift as the struggling Taiwanese smartphone maker looks for ways to cut costs and retain profitability, people familiar with the situation said. The Taiwanese firm has met with several major contract manufacturers in recent months including FIH Mobile Ltd., a unit of contract manufacturer Foxconn, and Wistron Corp. about the possibility of outsourcing as in-house production becomes more expensive due to the shrinking scale of orders, the people said.
