Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. is disputing the veracity of an interview with its founder, Jack Ma, which was published in a Hong Kong newspaper and has triggered a fiery debate in the Chinese blogosphere. Regarding the interview with the South China Morning Post, in which Mr. Ma refers to the 1989 crackdown on Tiananmen Square protesters as the “most correct decision” at the time, Alibaba is saying that Mr. Ma’s quotes were misinterpreted because some words were omitted from the newspaper’s published transcript.
