May 31, 2013  |  Media Week

The wait is over for NBC’s killer new drama Hannibal , as the Peacock on Thursday announced it has renewed the show for a second season. Based on the 1981 Thomas Harris novel, Red Dragon, and developed by writer and executive producer Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies), Hannibal will return in 2014 for a 13-episode midseason or summer run. NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke made the call, saying, “There are many great stories still to be told.” Through its first eight episodes, Hannibal is averaging 3.13 million viewers and a 1.3 in the adults 18-49 demo, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. Hannibal is the first scripted drama to air in NBC’s Thursday 10 p.m. slot to earn a renewal since ER was handed its 15th and final season pass following the 2007-08 campaign.
