Talk NYC Original Perspective: Willy Wong
Willy Wong is responsible for global branding, advertising and new media development for NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, established to build economic prosperity through tourism and spread the Big Apple’s image worldwide. The organization uses interactive initiatives like nycgo.com and the Official NYC Information Center to provide resources for visitors and residents looking for things to do and see in New York City.
Most notably, Wong recently helped roll out NYC Map, a mobile app that lists nearby businesses, 90,000 in all, displaying a logo representing their location on a map. The app allows users to quickly access information like restaurant menus and theatre times. It also links to photos and tips about specific locations that have been shared on FourSquare.
Our take… Wong’s creative direction has enabled the transformation of NYC’s information center, catching it up to the digital world using new media technology to encourage an interactive experience for tourists and residents.
