/// AMC Expanding Further Into Unscripted
If you've been losing sleep over worries that AMC is going to devote every last penny of its resources to producing highbrow, well-crafted drama , rest easy: Venice Beach Freakshow and Untitled Taxidermy Series are coming the the Emmy-magnet network. Both shows (working titles, obviously) have been given eight-episode orders by the cable net and will premiere in Q1 of next year. Taxidermy is exec produced by Go Go Luckey Entertainment with Gary and Julie Auerbach, Tina Gazzero, and Henry Capanna producing. The show will follow, yes, a taxidermy competition between contestants working to create “an ultimate piece of artwork showcasing the craft of taxidermy,” according to the press release (may we recommend Joel Peter Witkin as celebrity judge of said artwork?). This, by the way, is not the only taxidermy show on the market. History has Mounted in Alaska and Animal Planet sports American Stuffers . Venice Beach Freakshow follows Venice, California family man Todd Ray, his wife Danielle and their two children. The family owns and operates the titular freakshow, which exhibits various… attractions from all over the world. Come to think of it, Witkin would be a great guest star on either show. Ray exec produces the series himself alongside Endemol USA's Greg Johnston. AMC has also renewed The Pitch , which will return to the network in Q2 of 2013.
